About Sandy

Photo of Sandy Machell

Sandy Machell paints in both oil and pastel in the style of contemporary realism. Her primary focus is still life — maintaining her solid foundation for drawing, light affect, and overall unity.

In 2003, she committed herself to the classic atelier process at The Paul Ingbretson Studio for Drawing and Painting, formerly located in Manchester, NH, where the tradition of "The Boston School" is the foundation. She continues to paint in this tradition today.

Sandy has exhibited in numerous juried shows throughout New England and has received several awards. She is a signature member of the Pastel Society of New Hampshire, an associate member of the Pastel Society of America, and an associate member of the Oil Painters of America. She lives in southern New Hampshire with her family and has a studio in Nashua, NH.

A great amount of time and thought go into setting up a still life. Ultimately the success of the painting depends on the success of the setup of the still life. My paintings attempt to express a pleasing arrangement composed of props and objects collected over time with all the magic of natural light, interesting shapes, and color relationships.
