About Rebecca

Photo of Rebecca Fredrickson

Rebecca Fredrickson has had a fascination with drawing people since childhood and has been involved in the arts since graduating from Massachusetts College of Art with her BFA in painting and art education. She has shown locally, has had a solo show at Merrimack College, has worked as a volunteer and project manager for City Arts Nashua, and recently served as Executive Director at the Jaffrey Civic Center, an arts organization in Jaffrey, New Hampshire. Rebecca lives in Merrimack with her husband and three children.

While she drew lots of different subject matter, from an early age she was most interested in drawing people. At first captivated by women in Victorian clothing, with their elegance and grace, she would often visit thrift stores to discover old magazine prints or borrow books from the library, sketching the illustrations. During college, her passion evolved when working with live models, delving into narrative, figurative artwork, allowing experimentation with abstractions from the human figure.

In her recent works, she draws inspiration from a diverse array of sources, including her paintings and photographs, digital collages, and AI-generated images. Each piece begins with an image that stirs her imagination, leading to a freehand drawing process. Unlike many artists who rely on grids or tracing as their starting point, she develops the drawings independently.

Ultimately, my art is a reflection of my continuous exploration of the human form and the world around me, combining traditional techniques with modern influences to create pieces that resonate with both beauty and complexity. This approach allows me to fully immerse myself in the creative journey, ensuring that each work meets my personal standards of satisfaction.
