About Evalyn
Evalyn Hart Maghakian of Brookline became an artist late in life. Although she always had a creative side and was ‘artsy-craftsy’ she found that being a full-time teacher, raising a family and running a household made pursuing her art interest impractical.
When COVID hit in 2020, she was retired, a widow, and found the isolation from family, friends, and activities quite devastating. She looked for online painting classes and discovered palette knife painting through a webinar by Jennifer Vranes. Her approach inspired Evalyn -- birch trees, textured work with vibrant colors – it sparked the creativity she craved. Painting then became foremost in her life.
Since then, Evalyn has concentrated on capturing the depth of nature's beauty from blossoms to beaches, to beautiful birch trees, finding endless possibilities in the New England landscape. She participated in two artist's retreats, joined the Hollis Art Society, and exhibited her work in a small gallery since beginning her artistic journey.
At 72, I was the testament to “It’s never too late to learn and grow.” That was six years ago. Although this is a relatively new passion, I am fully vested in learning, improving, and experimenting with palette knife painting. I am still surprised when that moment in the painting process arrives and my vision is before me!
